ECOSOCC and EESC present Joint Declaration on the Summit of the Future to United Nations Economic and Social Council

Today, the African Union’s Economic Social and Cultural Council (ECOSOCC) and the European, Economic and Social Committee (EESC) on the sidelines of the ongoing Summit of the Future of the United Nations, presented a joint civil society declaration on the Pact for the Future, to the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC).

The three institutions are the civil society organs of the African Union, the European Union and the United Nations respectively. 

ECOSOCC Head of Programs Mr. Kyeretwie Osei, representing ECOSOCC Presiding Officer, Mr. Khalid Boudali, and EESC President, Mr. Oliver Ropke presented the joint declaration to the Hon. Bob Rae, UN ECOSOC President, to highlight the urgency of civil society representation in critical global frameworks such as the Summit of the Future. 

The joint declaration follows the signing of an official MoU between ECOSOCC and EESC in July 2024.

The Hon Rae, in receiving the joint declaration, reiterated the importance of coordinated global civil society and underlined the readiness of the UN ECOSOC to collaborate with ECOSOCC and the EESC in this regard 

The U.N. ECOSOC President commended ECOSOCC and the EESC for partnering on the joint declaration and committed to facilitate its formal submission to the Secretary General of the United Nations, Mr. Antonio Guterres.
