The African Union Executive Council Decision 1143(XL) of the 40th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council, 02-03 February 2022, requested the ECOSOCC Secretariat in collaboration with the relevant departments of the African Union Commission to launch the call for applications of the 4th Permanent General Assembly of ECOSOCC during the second quarter of 2022 and ensure strict compliance with eligibility criteria of ECOSOCC membership as provided for in the Statutes of the Organ. In furtherance of the aforementioned Executive Council Decision, the ECOSOCC Secretariat solicited applications from African Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) for membership into the ECOSOCC General Assembly.
The call for applications was opened from 1st April to 30th June 2022. A total number of one hundred fourteen (114) applications from thirty-nine (39) member states were received. However, the response did not attract an appropriate spread of candidates across the five regions of the continent for the conduct of ECOSOCC Election. Consequently, and in order to allow for greater representation of CSOs from the fifty-five (55) African Union Member States and ensure regional balance, the Secretariat has been mandated by the Credentials Committee to re-open the application process for a period of one (1) month.
The deadline for the receipt of applications into the 4th ECOSOCC Permanent General Assembly is therefore extended to 07th August 2022.
ECOSOCC hereby calls on the African civil society community to take advantage of the new deadline to effectively participate in the process.
