THEME: MAINSTREAMING GENDER IN THE CONTROL OF SMALL ARMS AND LIGHT WEAPONS IN AFRICA

The International Relations Institute of Cameroon (IRIC) in partnership with the Cameroon Youths and Students Forum for Peace (CAMYOSFOP), the United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Africa (UNREC), the Regional Centre on Small Arms in the Great Lakes, Horn of Africa and Neighboring States (RECSA), and the African Union Economic, Social and Cultural Council (ECOSOCC) are pleased to invite interested participants to submit applications for the second edition of the certified course on: Diplomacy of Arms Control, Proliferation, and Disarmament (DACPD) hosted by IRIC from 4 – 15 September, 2022, on the theme “Mainstreaming Gender in the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons in Africa.”

The course will include 7 days seminar form course work and 3 days field trips to military installations and the Kribi Deep Sea Port to witness the state-of-the-art safety and security measures used in Port and Cameroon highways.

The opportunities which accrue from enrolling and completing this course include:

  • You become a certified Expert in particular domains of arms control.
  • You could become the key officer in charge of programmes on arms control in your Ministerial department or institution.
  • You could be promoted or appointed in key positions and functions on arms control in your Ministerial department or institutions.
  • You could gain employment both at the national and international levels in a specialized institution or organization working on the question of arms control.
  • Acquire leadership, profiling, and positioning skills in national and international opportunities on arms control and related domains.

Participants are drawn from:

  • Key government Ministries working on the question of arms control (MINDEF, MINAT, MINREX, MINJUSTICE, MINCOMMERCE, MINEFOP, MINFI – DGD, DGSN, etc).
  • Members of National Commissions on Small Arms, DDR, SSR, Human Rights etc.
  • Members of Parliament and Parliamentary staff.
  • International Institutions and organizations.
  • Media representatives.
  • CSO representatives.
  • Newcomers working on arms control.
  • Higher level students in academic and professional institutions.

Interested Ministerial departments or individuals from Cameroon and the CEMAC region are hereby invited to submit their applications at the Academic Office of IRIC or the following emails camyosfop@camyosfop.org / camyosfop_p@yahoo.com / diric2017@gmail.com latest 01 August 2023, accompanied by an application fee of FCFA 25,000.

The list of preselected candidates will be published on 15 August 2023 and are expected to complete the application procedure including the payment of the Course Fee amounting to FCFA 500,000 for candidates from Cameroon and the CEMAC Sub-region and FCFA 1,000,000 for candidates out of CEMAC latest 25 August 2023.

Criteria for participation include:

  • At least two years of working experience in the security sector,
  • At least two years of working experience within a diplomatic institution,
  • Background knowledge in working with Government, Regional or international organizations,
  • Working experience with CSOs at strategic level,
  • Age: From 25 years.

NOTE:

  • Female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Key Ministries and institutions could also recommend their representatives for admission.
